Hello! Below you will find a lot of information about my home, the room I’m offering for rent, my interests, and what I’m basically looking for in a flat mate (don’t you love that term?!) Basically I want someone with similar interests and temperament that knows how to share space with another person in a comfortable, easygoing fashion. I have had a number of successful roommates in the past. I see the room I have to offer as a way station for people on their way somewhere “next” and the longest I’ve had a roommate stay is 10 months (then he married his fiance’; it’s a great story!), but I’d love to have someone stick around longer if they so desired. Check out the information below and if it sounds like it would work for you, please don’t hesitate to contact me!

The Room:

* Large (about 11' X 11')

* Huge Closet (takes up one whole wall)

* Black iron scroll style daybed (twin)

* Large dresser

* High Speed Internet via Wireless Router available throughout the condo.

* Bathroom directly across the hallway and will not be shared with anyone else. However it is the front bathroom, so my guests (few and far between and mostly my family members) may have to use it briefly on occasion. Lots of cupboard space!

* Bedding and towels also available.

The condo:

* A very laid back atmosphere, lots of books and bit of comfy clutter, candles &amp; incense, etc.

* Large kitchen (for a condo!) and fully stocked. No need to bring your own plates, bowls, silverware, etc. There is limited space for additional items. However, the refrigerator is shared and there is available cupboard space for dry goods and anything else you can fit in.

* Central A/C and Heat (used minimally to reduce expense)

* Big, comfy living room.

* 32" TV with DVD Player &amp; VHS Player

* The Third bedroom is currently my office and storage area, however, with the right person I would be open to cleaning/organizing it so we could both use the space as an office. Use of this room would increase the rent a little, something we would have to discuss.

* Swimming pool in complex

* Laundry room is right next door to my unit. Three washers, three dryers. 4 quarters to wash, 3 to dry.

Me:

* 32, female, straight &amp; in a new, but promising, relationship

* Grad student at JFK University in Pleasant Hill studying Integral Psychology (integrates mind, body, soul/spirit; East, West, North, &amp; South; visit holons-news.calm for an overview. Yes, I mistyped that on purpose). I’m graduating June 2009.

* I work multiple part time jobs and am out of the house quite a bit, but tend to be home in the mornings and off and on throughout the day.

* A bit of a night owl, but my schedule doesn't always allow that.

* Politically liberal and an Obama supporter.

* I love music, in particular female singer-songwriters, and I sing karaoke several times a month.

* I am a big fan of: Kevin Smith, Joss Whedon, Natalie Merchant, healthy living, books, my parents and sister, my boyfriend, and life in general!

* I am an adherent to the eating principles of the Weston A. Price Foundation (www.westonaprice.org). Though I strive not to be dogmatic about it and often eat off plan. I brew my own kombucha weekly. I also compost and grow some veggies on my balcony.

* On a spiritual path and always seeking peace, joy, beauty, and knowledge.

You:

* Preferably female

* Mature, peaceful, joyful, and financially responsible.

* Easy going, spiritual, thinker type would be ideal.

* Freely laughs at self and the wonderful absurdity of life.

Room available September 1st.

With 6-Month Lease the monthly rate is $600 and First &amp; Last Months' Rent moves you in (first month pro-rated if you move in mid-month).

No pets. No smoking. No drugs.

<title>{ISSUES &gt; BIAS AND BALANCE} - Offering no evidence, NY Times ' Brooks claimed Palin "pretty progressive on gay and lesbian issues," "talks about global warming quite a lot"</title>
<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://articles.world-of-newave.info/society/issues/business/media/bias-and-balance/offering-no-evidence-ny-times-brooks-claimed-palin-20080819632.htm"/>
<summary type="text/plain">During
the August 29 edition of PBS' NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, New York Times columnist David Brooks
asserted of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin: "She's evangelical, but she's
pretty progressive on gay and lesbian issues. She's for drilling in ANWR
[Arctic National Wildlife Refuge], but she talks about global warming quite a
lot." But Brooks did not mention what Palin has actually said on the subject
of global warming. In
fact, Newsmax Magazine reported that in an
interview, Palin said of global warming, "I'm not one though who would
attribute it to being man-made," a position that puts her at odds with the United Nations
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which has concluded that "[t]here is very high confidence that
the net effect of human
activities since 1750
has been one of warming"
and that "[m]ost of the observed increase in globally-averaged temperatures since
the mid-20th century is very likely due
to the observed increase in anthropogenic GHG (greenhouse gases) concentrations" (emphases
in original). Nor did
Brooks note that Palin reportedly opposed giving spousal benefits to same-sex
partners of public employees.

In an interview for the
September issue of Newsmax Magazine,
Palin was asked: "What is your take on global warming and how is it
affecting our country?" She responded: "A changing environment will
affect Alaska
more than any other state, because of our location. I'm not one though who
would attribute it to being man-made."

Palin has reportedly made similar remarks
about global warming in the past. For instance, on December 31, 2006, the Anchorage Daily News reported that
"[d]uring last fall's [gubernatorial] political campaign, Gov. Sarah Palin said she remained
unconvinced about how much human emissions contribute to current global warming trends. She endorsed
the work being undertaken by a new Alaska Climate Impact Assessment Commission
created by the Legislature last May, which she said would help provide Alaskans
with answers. But the Legislature steered away from addressing broader causes
of global warming and potential
solutions when it created the panel." Similarly, in a November 4, 2006, article, the Daily News reported:

The
candidates for governor all agree that global climate change is presenting
serious problems for Alaska,
but there is some disagreement over what the source of that problem is.

[...]

Palin
isn't so sure it's not a natural warming cycle, according to her spokesman,
Curtis Smith.

"She's
not totally convinced one way or the other," Smith said. "Science will
tell us, and she's proud that UAF [University of Alaska-Fairbanks] will have a
role in that. She thinks the jury's still out."

"I
will not pretend to have all the answers," Palin said about global warming
at the recent Alaska Federation of Natives convention, where delegates passed a
resolution calling for a mandatory reduction in pollution affecting the
atmosphere.

Answering
a question from the Daily News, Palin cautioned against
"overreaction." She has called the Alaska Climate Change Impact
Assessment Commission report due next March a good place to start. The
commission was created by the Legislature last year. Its seven members were
named Wednesday.

Additionally, Brooks gave no evidence
that Palin is "pretty progressive on gay and lesbian issues." Nor
did he note that, as Media Matters for
America has documented, while Palin
vetoed a bill in 2006 that would have prevented state officials from granting
spousal benefits, her actions followed a 2005 Alaska Supreme Court ruling that the state's
policy of denying spousal benefits to same-sex partners of public employees
violated the Alaska Constitution and a 2006 state Supreme Court order requiring the
state to issue regulations granting such benefits by January 1, 2007. In the veto message,
Palin's office stated that she disagreed with the Alaska Supreme
Court's actions: "The Governor's veto does not signal any change or
modification to her disagreement with the action and order by the Alaska
Supreme Court." Further, as a candidate for governor, Palin also
reportedly supported efforts to
prohibit state benefits for same-sex couples. The Anchorage Daily News reported on August 6,
2006, that Palin believes "[e]lected officials can't defy the court when
it comes to how rights are applied, she said, but she would support a ballot
question that would deny benefits to homosexual couples. 'I believe that
honoring the family structure is that important,' Palin said. She said she
doesn't know if people choose to be gay."

From the August 29 edition of PBS' NewsHour with Jim Lehrer:

LEHRER:
Do you think that's -- do you think that has any possibility of actually
working, that women would vote -- well, that's -- that's the question.

BROOKS:
Yes, I do, and the fact that she is working class. She is, as she says, a
hockey mom, which I guess is tougher than a soccer mom. She -- you know, her
husband's a member of a union. She said she works with her hands. She's not a pretentious
person. You know, they were not going to nominate Mitt Romney and have the two
wealthy guys. So that's good. And I think the second thing -- and, again, this
is all contingent on the fact she does well, which we really don't know.

LEHRER:
Sure.

BROOKS:
But I thought she did well today. But the second thing to be said is she is an
under-45 Republican. That means she's unwedded to Reaganism. She's a --
she's evangelical, but she's pretty progressive on gay and lesbian
issues. She's for drilling in ANWR, but she talks about global warming quite a
lot. She's got different categories in her head than, I think, the older
conservatives who are pretty much down the line ideologically.

LEHRER:
During the campaign, though, what does it do now for the experience issue?
Because that was going to be a big one between McCain and
Obama.

<title>{ISSUES &gt; BIAS AND BALANCE} - In WND column, Corsi co-author Craig R. Smith called Obama "our first hip-hop president"</title>
<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://articles.world-of-newave.info/society/issues/business/media/bias-and-balance/in-wnd-column-corsi-co-author-craig-r-smith-called-20080880132.htm"/>
<summary type="text/plain">In his August 25 WorldNetDaily column,
Craig R. Smith, who co-wrote Black
Gold Stranglehold: The Myth of Scarcity and the Politics of Oil (WND
Books, October 2005) with Obama Nation
author and WND staff writer Jerome
Corsi, asserted that "the real reason" Sen. Barack
Obama's election would be "a moment of historical significance
unlike any other" is because Obama "will be our first hip-hop
president." Smith continued: "I can only imagine how the world will
embrace the leader of the free world when he introduces other foreign leaders
with, 'give it up for my man Vladimir.' Giving 'props'
for joining us in a treaty. Or the first lady Michelle talking about 'my
man' the 'daddy of my babies' when referring to the
president. ... The use of ghetto slang during the primaries and even today
may be a clear indication just how the Obamas intend to 'roll' if
given the privileged seat in the Oval Office." Smith also wrote: "I
can see it now. Air Force One decked out with '22s' and spinners.
Maybe even a set of hydraulics. Watching the hip-hop president in the Oval
Office with his baseball cap on backward coping a gansta lean in the big chair.
Should be really pimp, don't you think?"

Smith's column was highlighted
by Atlantic Media blogger Andrew Sullivan on August 27.

From Smith's column, headlined "The hip-hop
president":

If Barack Obama
is to become our 44th president, it will be heralded as a moment of historic
significance unlike any other. However, I think many are missing the real
reason why.

It's because Barack
Obama will be our first hip-hop president.

I can only imagine how the world
will embrace the leader of the free world when he introduces other foreign
leaders with, "give it up for my man Vladimir." Giving
"props" for joining us in a treaty. Or the first lady Michelle
talking about "my man" the "daddy of my babies" when
referring to the president. That should go over well everywhere from 10 Downing Street
right on down to the streets of the Middle East.

The use of ghetto slang during the
primaries and even today may be a clear indication just how the Obamas intend
to "roll" if given the privileged seat in the Oval Office. Of course,
having no sense of decorum and awe is nothing new to Democrats. Bill Clinton did a masterful job of disgracing the office,
and I expect no less from Obama if given the chance.

But he will be so fly!

I can see it now. Air Force One
decked out with "22s" and spinners. Maybe even a set of hydraulics.
Watching the hip-hop president in the Oval Office with his baseball cap on backward
coping a gansta lean in the big chair. Should be really pimp, don't you think?
Cool man, real cool. Instead of giving away presidential cuff links to guests,
as is the custom, he will offer "bling bling."

I imagine a whole group of special
advisers to the president sitting around the Oval Office discussing policy.
Kanye West, 50 Cent and maybe even Eminem (to keep the diversity thing going),
all sharing their life experiences with the prez to assist him in understanding
his "peeps."

No more press conferences or State
of the Union addresses will be necessary. He will text message any comments he
has to his public and his pals in the media. When it comes time for the State
of the Union, he can just post it on his blog
and cc the Daily Kos and the Huffington Post. The first interactive,
full-bandwidth prez. How 21st century.

After a few months on the job, he
can refer to his cabinet members as his "bitches." Hey don't get
angry at me. Take a listen to any hip-hop song, and that is the type of endearing
language you will hear. A group of playas that have no respect for the country.
The same country that affords them a lifestyle most people only dream of, and
all they can do is endlessly complain about it. Barack
is very good at putting America
down. Just like his hipster homeboys. Remember that hip-hop is a culture, not a
color. It's a mind set and a way of life -- one that is chosen not inherited.
It has been slowly infiltrating every class and race in America for years. A culture that
has led people to believe they deserve more. That America somehow owes them
something. And because they think they have been ripped off in some fashion,
they are angry.
