One bedroom in a Two bedroom apartment to share with ONE person only 1- 3 months.

1) About the place:

The two bedroom apartment is cozy, simply and minimally furnished. I have respect for spaces, and it is tastefully decorated. Always clean. Carpeted. Dishwasher/ washer/dryer.Fireplace that works and a gorgeous view of the bay with a beautiful tree.

Located in a residential, quiet and great neighborhood.

Transportation is less than 1/2 block walking distance.Parking on the street.

Close to the Castro, 24th street, supermarkets, food stores, wine stores, coffee shops, restaurants and Walgreens.

2) About the bedroom:

Spacious and Sunny. Large window with a view of the bay and a three with morning singing birds. Large closet. Minimally furnished with a bed, and night table.

3) About me:

I am a physical Culturist from South America. I've being living in this Country for 17 years so I am also North American. Well traveled, a minimalist ( no clutter) body conscious, health concious, environmentally conscious. I eat mostly organic foods including organic grass fed meat. When I am not at home, I am either chilling at the beach, kicking my ass at the gym, with a client, or shopping for more food to cook and eat. When I am at home, for the most part, I am chilling, reading, cooking, doing laundry, cleaning or sleeping.

Because of my life-style I devote to my body 8-10 hrs of sleep if posible and sometimes I take a nap. I despise the media. Therefore, I do not own a T.V. Instead I like to read and chill. I do not like to have friends over all the time and do not want my potential temporaly roomate to have people coming over either. I like to have privacy and a quiet home to relax.

4) What I am looking for:

Looking for preferibly a FEMALE to share temporaly. Fun, responsible, well educated with references and clean.( Because I live minimally it is an ideal place for someone who is transitioning while getting situated in the city).

I am neat and I need someone who is respecful of my level of cleaness.

I do not party at the house and do not like to have parties over either. My home is a peaceful place to chill, meditate, study, read, eat and sleep.

Please no boyfriend or girldfriend over all the time. The apartment is not for three people. I am looking to share the space with one person.

NO SMOKERS. NO PETS. NO DRUGS. NO COUPLES. NO DRAMA.

$ 1100.00 Deposit plus first month.

So far place is inmediatly available. If you are serious about the sublet please e-mail me your contact number along with the best time to reach you.

We like to travel often to as many places as possible...and are hoping to find some people that might want to come to San Francisco and would like to swap homes.

Our apartment is located on Guerrero at 18th Street, one block away from Dolores Park, and on the Mission/Castro border. The neighborhood is the best....

The apartment is a large 1 bedroom shotgun apartment and can sleep up to 4 people max comfortably. It's newly renovated and furnished modernly with a large mac computer (with internet/wireless internet throughout the apartment as well)and a large panel tv. This is a pet-free and smoke-free home.

Our possible swapping dates:

Halloween 2008 (Oct. 31st through November 9th)
Thanksgiving 2008 (Wednesday, Nov. 26th through Sunday, Nov. 30th)
Christmas 2008 (Dec. 17th through 31st)
April 2009 (flexible dates)

Places we want to visit: Hawaii, Arizona, New Mexico, Central and South America, Europe, anywhere near the Grand Canyon, and Southern California.

We are interested in learning both about your simultaneous swaps and non-simultaneous swaps...

We're experienced home-swappers and have had some great experiences.
I've attached photos. Please feel free to email me anything interesting!

{ISSUES > BIAS AND BALANCE} - LA Times reported Vets for Freedom ad attacking Obama over troop funding vote, but ignored Obama's response and McCain's own record

In an
October 1 Los Angeles Times article, staff writer
Dan Morain uncritically quoted a new Vets for Freedom ad that claims, "[Sen.] Barack
Obama skipped 45% of Senate votes but did manage to show up to vote against
emergency funding for our troops." But, while noting that in the
September 26 debate with Sen. John McCain, "Obama said that on the issue
of Afghanistan, he had deferred to the Foreign Relations Committee chaired by
his running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, to hold hearings," the Times did not point out that Obama also responded to McCain's accusation -- echoed in
the Vets for Freedom ad -- that Obama had voted against troop funding. During
the debate, Obama noted that McCain has voted against
legislation to fund the wars in Afghanistan
and Iraq.
The Times noted neither that Obama responded nor that McCain himself voted against war funding legislation.

During
the September 26 debate, after McCain accused
Obama of "vot[ing] to cut off the funds for the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan," Obama stated: "John
always brings this up. ... Senator McCain opposed funding for troops in
legislation that had a timetable, because he didn't believe in a timetable. I
opposed funding a mission that had no timetable, and was open-ended, giving a
blank check to [President] George Bush. We had a difference on the
timetable."

Media Matters for America documented that in a
September 28 article, the Times similarly reported that "on
Saturday, McCain launched a TV ad that accuses Obama of voting to 'cut
off funding for our troops,' a charge that Obama vehemently denies," but
did not note that Obama pointed out McCain's vote against the troop funding
bill that included a timetable for withdrawal.

From
Morain's October 1 Los Angeles Times
article, headlined
"PAC funds anti-Obama TV ad in California":

The ad opens with the image of a smiling Obama, leaning back in an
office chair. A voice says: "Barack Obama skipped 45% of Senate votes but
did manage to show up to vote against emergency funding for our troops. . . .
Obama was chairman of the committee overseeing the fight against Al Qaeda in Afghanistan
but never held a single hearing. . . . Obama found time to make 45 trips to Iowa but only two trips to Iraq."

McCain
is never mentioned.

The ad
concludes by suggesting that voters urge Obama to support a Senate resolution
backed by two of McCain's closest allies, independent Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut and Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. The
resolution commends the United States
for undertaking the troop buildup in Iraq and says the gains from the
move have been significant. Lawmakers who favor a more rapid withdrawal from Iraq
oppose the resolution.

"I
can't think of anything that would be a worse defeat for the United States than to pull out before we have
achieved our goals," Wilson
said in explaining why he was promoting the Vets for Freedom effort.

Obama
campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt called the ad "a despicable distortion"
of the candidate's record, adding that Obama "has been a forceful advocate
for our service members, passing legislation that ensured our wounded warriors
receive the care and treatment they deserve."

In last
week's debate with McCain, Obama said that on the issue of Afghanistan, he had deferred to the
Foreign Relations Committee chaired by his running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, to
hold hearings.

America is built around the automobile. Big cities may have decent transit systems, but most of us spend a lot of time slogging through traffic on a highway. Say what you will, but the National Highway System is a crucial part of our transportation infrastructure. Trouble is, it wasn't built with city dwellers in mind.

Hulking expressways and overpasses too often bisect our cities, dividing neighborhoods, blocking access to waterfronts and promoting blight. Many were built decades ago, and as they fall into disrepair, some activists say they should be razed entirely. Replacing them with neighborhood-friendly boulevards would, they say, foster revitalization, restore communities and save taxpayers billions in construction costs.

"There's a whole generation of elevated highways in cities that are at the end of their design life," says John Norquist, head of the Congress for the New Urbanism. "Instead of rebuilding them at enormous expense, cities have an opportunity to undo what proved to be major urban-planning blunder."

It's a novel idea that's worked in cities like San Francisco, Portland and Milwaukee. Norquist has a list of other cities that oughtta fire up the wrecking ball and take down a highway."Freeways Without Futures" outlines 10 urban highways that have long since outlived their usefulness. It was compiled by the Congress for the New Urbanism and the Center for Neighborhood Technology, and it focuses on those areas with the best chance of removing a freeway and replacing it with a boulevard. "The Federal Highway Fund just received a short-term bailout," Norquist says. "The money that does exist can be invested much more efficiently in surface streets and transit."

This is not an abstract idea for Norquist. He was mayor of Milwaukee when the city replaced the Park East Freeway with McKinley Boulevard six years ago. CNU says averaged assessed land values in the area climbed 180 percent between 2001 and 2006. San Francisco saw similar gains after razing the Embarcadero and Central freeways.

"Fifty years ago, when there was flight from cities, industrialized waterfronts seemed like a convenient place to run freeways," Norquist says. "The result for the neighborhoods has been blight. Cities like San Francisco that have removed freeways and reclaimed waterfronts have turned them into magnets for people and investment."

CNU says the following cities could enjoy similar benefits if they'd raze these 10 highways:

Alaskan Way Viaduct, Seattle, WA ? (pictured) Built in 1953, this north-south route along Seattle's Elliot Bay stands between the city and an open Seattle waterfront.

Sheridan Expressway, Bronx, NY ? Known as I-895 and built in
1963, it was designed to connect the Bruckner Expressway with
the New England Thruway in the Bronx, but local opposition limited it
to a one-mile road that mars the Bronx River waterfront.

Skyway and Route 5, Buffalo, NY ? Built in 1953,
this 1.4-mile long, 110-foot tall bridge begins at the Inner Harbor
downtown, crosses the Buffalo River and touches down as Route 5 in the
Outer Harbor. It blocks access to the waterfront, and there is no
pedestrian access between downtown and the Outer Harbor.

Route 34 - New Haven, CT ? This highway begins at the
junction of Interstates 95 and 91 and extends on columns into downtown
New Haven for 1.1 miles, but plans to extend the road another 10 miles
were never realized. Six hundred families were displaced to make room
for this project, which was built in 1959.

Claiborne Expressway, New Orleans, LA ? In the 1950s, this
highway rolled over one of New Orleans' thriving African-American communities. With construction of the more direct I-610 in the
1970s, calls for the removal of the Claiborne have been increasing.

Interstate 81, Syracuse NY ? When Interstate 81 was finished
in the late 1950s it destroyed an African-American community, and today
is an eyesore that does little to promote growth in downtown Syracuse.

Interstate 64, Louisville, KY ? This six-lane highway
separates downtown Louisville from its waterfront. In 2003, the Federal
Highway Administration proposed a $4.1 billion expansion of I-64, which
has been loudly opposed by area activists.

Route 29, Trenton, NJ ? This four-lane road runs along the
Delaware River and has a higher-than-average rate of collisions. Its
removal would pave the way for a mixed-use waterfront development.

Gardiner Expressway, Toronto, ON ? Finished in 1966, this eight-lane highway separates downtown Toronto from its waterfront and costs $10 million a year to maintain.

11th Street Bridges and the Southeast Freeway, Washington, D.C. ? The Southeast Freeway is a 1.39-mile stretch of freeway running
through Washington, D.C., built in the late 1960s. It connects Interstate
395 to Interstate 295 at the 11th Street Bridges and was prevented from
continuing west due to local opposition at the time.

That's the list. What's yours? Use the Reddit widget below to tell us which highways you would tear down, why you'd raze it and what you'd put in its place.

It seems appropriate at some point in the course of a project like this to step back and evaluate the progress that has been achieved. This project began in earnest on May 27, 2004. The original charter of the project is exactly the same today as it was almost three and a half years ago, that is:...to place the concept of secession in the mainstream of political thought. Our intent is to proclaim that secession is a viable and legal right and a practical solution to contemporary problems. Secondly, we desire to build a coalition of groups seeking autonomy and independence within the current United States. Mutual support for the concept of self-determination and secession will eventually benefit all groups seeking freedom. How exactly has the project measured up in achieving this goal you might ask. Certainly much has been accomplished over all in terms of placing secession closer to mainstream thought and certainly coalitions have begun to form with the notion of mutual support. These are wonderful events, two national Secessionist Conventions have occurred since the formation of the ASP. It would be dishonest, and narcissistic, to believe that the ASP actually had much or anything to do with this progress. Our great allies in this struggle accomplished these feats, we owe much to The Middlebury Institute, The Vermont Commons, The League of The South and the Second Vermont Republic. One cannot mention the current secession movement in America without thinking of Kirkpatrick Sale, he has been the most vocal advocate for secession as a legitimate and legal resource of the people and states over the last three years. There are of course many others that have championed this cause and forced the issue into the national media. Cory Burnell was the driving force and face and voice of Christian Exodus - this forced the issue of secession into the news media. The League of The South published the Grey Book, a manifesto for Southern Independence, and groups in Hawaii and other states expanded their membership base.Still you ask, what exactly has the ASP done to further the cause and accomplish our charter? Our accomplishments have been small compared to our allies - this much is certain. We are not ashamed of this, in fact we rejoice that we are not a lone voice in the wilderness. We take great pride in being part of something that will ultimately, we believe, change the very nature of human liberty and government on the American continent. Our meager accomplishment:44, 315 unique visitors to our main site - this is of course a small number of hits considering the time frame but we do receive a lot of email, much from students doing research for school. A visit to our site is often the first honest treatment of secession these young minds have ever experienced.Published The Secessionist Papers, a collection of 20 essays dealing with numerous aspects of secession. The list of contributors that have agreed to participate includes notable authors such as Dr. Walter Brock, Dr, Thomas E. Woods, Kirkpatrick Sale and Thomas J. DiLorenzo.Created the States' Rights Bloggers' Alliance, a coalition of 30 blogs dealing with the issue of States' Rights specifically and secession occasionally.Published the Declaration of States' Rights, with 235 signatures collected thus far.Started an ASP Google Mail list Group with 31 members, small but growing.Operated four blogs with a total of 53,342 unique visitors during the period. (visit The League of The Scarlet Pimpernel for our 'freshest' content)Participated in two doctoral research projects concerning secession issues. What do we hope to accomplish over the next three years (and how you can help)Gather 10,000 signatures for the Declaration of States' Rights. How? See below.Get some governmental body - state legislature or even county council - to pass a resolution supporting the Declaration of States' Rights. Why? A resolution of support would of course not make this law but it certainly would make news and it would be a step in the right direction to have a local government stand up and say that enough is enough.Breath life into this particular blog with regular updates on secession issues in America and around the world.Expand the States' Rights Bloggers' Alliance by actively engaging like minded bloggers across the blogsphere and encouraging them to join with us in this important discussion.Create Volume II of the Secessionist Papers , written and published for the common man.How do you help?We need a blogger, someone familiar with the blogsphere that has the time, energy and commitment to dedicate to this blog and the States' Rights Bloggers' Alliance (or a team of bloggers). This person or people must be willing to update regularly to the blogs with fresh content and be willing and able to tactfully engage others on their blogs via comments and trackbacks. Interested? Please email.State organizations already exist in many states, The Declaration of States' Rights is an easy tool to build consensus in states where organizations do not already exist. We need people that love their states to stand up and engage their neighbors. Encourage them to sign the declaration, encourage your county council to pass a resolution supporting the Declaration. All politics are local, stand up and act locally, realizing that others will support you by acting locally in their homes and states. Real freedom in our time will not be achieve without such overt acts.Encourage like-minded writers, academics, and even lawyers to submit new essays for Volume II of the Secessionist Papers. Our message must cover the entire spectrum of the issue, current political troubles, historical precedence as well and legal and Constitutional interpretations. A movement like this cannot move forward without such a philosophical underpinning.Bottom line ---- Get Involved!

{SYSTEMS > NEWS AND MEDIA} - Macally gives power to the iPhone and iPod

Today Macally announce three new gadgets for iPods and iPhones which extend the device's battery life and maybe add a few cool features as well: the PowerLink, PowerPal and JboxMini

The PowerLink has a standard 30-pin dock connector and serves as an emergency external battery pack for an iPod or iPhone. On a drained iPhone it will actually add an 1 hour of talk time--more than enough to call a tow truck or emergency service in a time of need. The built in USB connector allows it to be used as a syncing and charging device when connected to your Mac (this is also how you charge the PowerLink itself). Additionally, the PowerLink is a 2GB flash drive to be used as you see fit.

The PowerLink sells for USD$49.99 and ships with a USB extension cable.

If you travel the globe with your iPod, the PowerPal is for you. It's a combination USB/AC charger and universal power adaptor that can come to the aid of almost any USB device, be it an iPhone, iPod, camera or PDA. It comes with interchangeable plugs for North and South America, Taiwan, Japan, Europe, China, Middle East, Russia, United Kingdom, Singapore, Hang Kong, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. It also has a fuse compartment (including and extra fuse) and a Universal pass through outlet (so that you can still use the plug for other things while your iPod charges).

The PowerPal comes with a standard iPod 30-pin to USB cable and a carrying pouch and sells for USD$29.99

Lastly, there the JBoxMini, a portable high capacity Li-ion battery for iPod and iPhones. It not only increases the usage time of iPhone and iPod by up to four hours, it can also power other USB-based portable devices.

The PowerPal sells for USD$29.99.

All these Macally devices are shipping now.

Www.Macmerc.Com - Today Macally announce three new gadgets for iPods and iPhones which extend the device's battery life and maybe add a few cool features as well: the PowerLink, PowerPal and JboxMini
