I posted this before, but have added some revisions. I'm a guy in his late 40s. Normal in all respects (not a pervert). My wife left in Dec07 and took most of the furniture. So I am trying to collect new stuff, but it's slow going. Money is the issue as usual. Anyway, for $800 a month you would be getting your own bedroom, your own private bathroom, and your own sizable living room. You can decorate anyway that you want. You would also get access to the rest of the house, like the kitchen and den. I also have a swimming pool for those warm summer days. The two-car garage is sort of stuffed full at the moment, but I plan on cleaning it out and having a yard sell to create more storage space. So there may be a little space available in the garage for your stuff after the clean out project.
I am looking for a cool lady in her late 30s to late 40s. You should be mature and respect others. You should be drama free. You must have a job and you must be able to pay your rent on time. No big parties are going to be allowed, but small get togethers would be OK. Over night guest are OK, but not every night or even every weekend. We can discuss those details prior to your guest coming over. I don't mind social drinking, but I will not tolerate drug users or alcoholics. This is a cool area with mostly young families with young children. I work from 11pm to 9am, Sunday night through Thursday mornings. I also work some weekends. So I really need someone here that is going to be able to be quit during the evening hours from about 3pm until 10pm. That is when I am sleeping. You in turn will have to be able to put up with me getting ready for work at 10pm during the week. I am flexible on the price for the right person. Utilities are included in the price of $800 a month. No cats or dogs allowed. The best way to reach me is by phone. I don’t get to my emails as much as I should. Nor do I text or IM. So call me at 707-301-6798 if interested. The best time to reach me is in the mornings from 6am until about 11am. Just so you know, I do not answer blocked numbers, so make sure your number shows up on my display otherwise I will let it go to voicemail. Thanks for reading my post and good luck in your search….Charlie

I am looking for a cool gal or guy in their late 30s to late 40s. You should be mature and respect others. You should be drama free. If you are a single mom with a small child that might work as well, sense I might be willing to give you an extra room for the kid at no extra charge. As a matter of fact I would prefer a female roommate, but guys are welcome to apply as well. You must have a job and you must be able to pay your rent on time.
{NORTH AMERICA > RENTALS} - Apartment 9/28 until 10/27 (berkeley) $700

What: nice 2 bedroom apartment in a fairly new building, available for 1 month while I'm out of town. You get the biggest room totally cleared of other people's stuff, lightly furnished with a queen sized bed, plus shelves and drawers in a huge empty closet for you to use. The living room, kitchen and bathroom are also pretty clean, so you won't feel like you're stuffed into someone else's life for a month. The smaller room remains mine but will be unoccupied while you are there. The kitchen is pretty nice, with a gas stove and a nice set of pots and pans. Good wireless internet, basic cable TV, and all utilities are of course included in the rent.

When: 9/28 to 10/27 (meaning move out morning of 10/28). If you need slightly different dates, feel free to email, as the room is not occupied, we may be able to work something.

Where: near North Berkeley BART.

How much: $900, minus a $200 discount for some fairly low-key pet-sitting. This is less than half what the apartment actually costs. The pet is a middle-aged female rat, very nice, much easier to look after (and less messy) than someone's dog or cat. If nobody is interested in rat-sitting, then the rent is $900 with no rat. Also, a deposit equal to the rent is needed to hold the place, so $1400 total to move in (sorry about that, but the apartment is nice, and the landlord has a lot of my money). The deposit will be refunded on move-out.

How: Email me if you're interested; let me know about any experience with or interest in small animals you might have.

Two ad men with bladders of steel set out tonight to make the infamous Cannonball Run from midtown Manhattan to Santa Monica, California, but with more eco-panache than the many imitators and speed demons who've made similar cross-country dashes. Nik Bristow and Brian Pierce have loaded a VW Jetta TDI with jerrycans full of BioWillie biodiesel and plan to finish their carbon-neutral transcontinental drive by Wednesday morning.

"We're hoping to do it in about 36 hours, not stopping once," Pierce, 36, says in a YouTube video promoting the event (see it below). "Not for gas, not for food, not for the bathroom." And why would they do that?

"I know the trip sounds crazy, but it's more important now than ever," Bristow, 27, says. "We're on the cusp of a very important election where oil and energy are universal top concerns, and biodiesel is one of the cleaner, more viable fuel alternatives out there. We need to get the word out."

They've got Willie Nelson in their corner, but let's hope it's a better partnership than that awful duet he sang with Julio Iglesias. And while this isn't the first time the Red Headed Stranger has been involved in transporting repurposed plants, it might well be the first time it involves condom size-charts, liquid diets and corporate sponsorships.Among the technical innovations present on this trip are a 2006 Jetta TDI they've christened Willie One. It's bone-stock and stuffed with 15 five-gallon jerrycans brimming with Nelson's own brand of 100 percent biodiesel. Even the strongest bladder would burst on a cross-country trek without a bathroom break, so the boys will be wearing Stadium Pal condom catheters and enjoying a diet (chicken broth and strawberry Jell-O, anyone?) that prevents the need for rest stops a portable urinal just can't handle.

"Were not wearing astronaut diapers," Pierce told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "We're using condom catheters, so we will be ..." Bristow finishes the sentences for him: " ... free to pee in our pants."

The team originally considered Nik's Mk3 TDI Jetta as a contender for Willie One but chucked that idea. "In order to set a cross-country driving record, it's kind of important to make it across the country," Pierce says. And while the original Cannonball Run was all about unfettered speed, the Willie Runners plan to obey the speed limit. They figure they'll go through 75 gallons of biodiesel, but they're carrying 85 just to be safe. "It would be embarrassing to run out of fuel just east of L.A.," Bristow says. They figure all that extra fuel weighs about 440 pounds, and refill the fuel tank from the back seat. We haven't seen it, but apparently you can do that in a Jetta TDI.

Bristow and Pierce are a pair of advertising copywriters with Fitzgerald+CO, and they're masters of New Media. They have a website, a Facebook page, loads of Youtube videos and the kind of product placement many can only dream of landing. They're also so passionate about biofuel as to be evangelical and saw a chance to merge their professional and personal passions. "It's good to be able to put your skills to work for something you personally believe in," Pierce says.

You can follow their progress on this map after 10 p.m. EST Monday or watch the fun unfold on the RunCam. They plan to arrive in L.A. on Wednesday morning, at which point "I think we'll be ready to hug each other or punch each other," the guys write on their site. "We'll see which one happens first."

A Washington DC train station was shut down for a couple hours recently as a bomb squad investigated this "hobo polo bear" standing near a trash can. Turns out, the stuffed animal was part of a collaboration between Greenpeace and prankster artist Mark Jenkins. From an email Mark sent me: We made a series of human-like homeless polar bears and installed them around DC to get people to think about the issue (of melting arctic ice) with more empathy. it seemed people liked them a lot and took pictures of their kids in front of them, etc. but most were removed pretty quickly by the authorities. the last image is one that was met with ill-fate after being deemed a "suspicious package." so the whole thing ended up have a touch of irony to it when compared to the actual situation.
