riverman writes "I have been 'provisioned' at the school where I work to teach a new Computer Science/Programming course. I'm supposed to be teaching everything from the very-very basics (i.e. where that myspace thing is in your computer monitor, and how it knows who your friends are) to the easy-advanced (i.e. PHP classes and Python/Google App Engine). I'm an experienced programmer, but I'm not sure where to start — I could easily assume that my students know something basic they don't. Are there any resources on the internet that could help me find a solid curriculum? What are your suggestions?" I'm sure many of us have gone through intro-level programming courses of some sort; what are some things your teacher or professor did that worked well, and what didn't work at all?Read more of this story at Slashdot.

I'm a big Apress fan, and stumbled across their sister designer imprint, Friends of Ed. I then came across a book on building applications with PHP 5 and Flash. I'm on chapter 2, and have already built my first "hello, world" application, with Flash displaying a date generated by a PHP script. The book is called Foundation PHP 5 for Flash, and is intended as introduction to PHP for Flash designers who don't have that much programming experience. Nevertheless, it's perfect for an experienced PHP programmer who wants to learn about one can build data-driven applications using Flash. In my case, I had to play around with the Flash interface and help to figure out how to do things, but the book took things step-by-step, thus making each step easy to follow.I'm excited to see what else I discover! I'll keep you posted!
