<description>I will have a room for rent for $530/month September 1st,maybe August 31st. The apartment is a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom situated on the second floor of a small/midsized complex building. plus split-utilities (i.e. comcast cable/PG&E open to get comcast internet and phone). Total move-in is first month's rent plus last month's rent = $1060. I'm willing to work with the right person by splitting up last month's.

On-site laundry facilities. Gets natural light, has a balcony with views of downtown Oakland and the hills, the kitchen is small, gas stove, wall-to-wall carpeting (except in kitchen and bathroom). My roommate is taking her appliances so if you have kitchen appliances and living room furniture that's a plus!

Location to retail/commercial/restaurant:
Within walking distance to Lake Merritt, small cafes, restaurants and shops on park avenue, parkway theater and several local watering holes including Baggy's Bar!!! Lucky's, Merritt Bakery, Walgreens that is open until midnight every night! If you like to walk or bike like I do, you can walk to downtown Oakland, Trader Joes on Lakeshore and Wholefoods.

Near major public transit lines:
-- Lake Merritt BART is 9-10 minute walk;
-- AC Transit bus 18 on Park Avenue to Berkeley
-- AC Transit bus 14 on East 18th and Park Avenue to West Oakland Bart Station
-- AC Transit bus NL Transbay at MacArthur and Park Avenue(direct connection to San Francisco Transbay Terminal)

About me:
I'm 32 yrs young, a Pisces (yes, we rule!)African American queer female who is comfortable with her sexuality, body image and culture and you must be okay with it as well. I work full time in downtown Oakland and a full time student. Easy-going, outgoing, responsible, weird, dry sense of humor, mature, respectful, mostly neat, clean, and independent. If you want privacy, I respect that. If you are sociable, I respect that as well as long as you know your boundaries. We can hang out if you like, I'm up for movies, going out for drinks, art shows, poetry slams, clubs, sight-seeing, going out to drink coffee/eat, amusement parks, host small dinner gathering, etc.

I will inform you whenever a guest is going to come over -- this will be occasionally since I mainly go out when I socialize. My hobbies include reading (currently reading about the Bilderberg group)love to eat new foods, traveling on the cheap, shopping for bargains (love garage sells and flea markets) photography, engaging in community activism /volunteering when time permits. So I love TV, I am not going to lie!! lol...I love Family Guy, Simpsons, American Dad, The L Word, The Wire, 1st 48, Shear Genius, Project Runway, Noahs Arc and anything on the Food Network and the Travel Channels!!! I know I 'm sick!!!

I know some people want friends, others want space, and I'm open to either. I've lived with guys and girls equally well.-- Someone who is engaged in work, school or project that keeps them busy (outside of the home) during the weekdays.
-- Respectful, sense of humor, little to no drama (we have some in our lives), common sense, open-minded (towards all race, color, culture, beliefs, personalities, etc.,). Please don't smoke/do drugs (420 ok but not excessive I have asthma)or have cats unless they stay in your room most of the time cause I am allergic to most but not all cats. Drinking is fine as long no one gets hurt! Inform me in advance if guests are coming over. Please be financially stable and pay rent + utilities on time.

We can discuss other things once we decide we are the right fit! Like splitting toiletries, etc...other house rules etc

If you are not turned off or saying damn that's a lot of sh@#! lol, email me a description of yourself, habits, work, school etc. One liners will not get responses. I will be showing the space today after 6 p.m., let me know what time you are able to come see it. Thanks and good luck with your search!

<description>Let's co-create a beautiful, inspiring home in the forest!

Hi!

My name is Jessica, I'm 24, a community organizer/social entrepreneur, musician, artist, spiritual creative and animal lover. I have a vision of the most fulfilling living situation I can imagine that I am ready to manifest with 3 others. The basis of my vision is the authentic connection of 4 amazing people who all seek to share our passion, our joy, and our creativity for the purpose of living our most authentic and self-actualized lives. I am looking for folks in our 20s and 30s who walk a spiritual path, love to create things, adore animals and the natural world, appreciate the abundant beauty around us, find our fun in communal jam sessions and art making, and view our home and the land its on as our sanctuary. I don't have a set deadline to move, but September or October 1st feels like a good time to me.

The house I envision looks something like this:

Located in the Berkeley/Oakland woods up in the hills

Friendly to as many dogs as we want (I have an amazing chow/sharpei and hope to get another!)

Large, open, airy wooden house with peaceful, uplifting energy

4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, meditation/music/creative room

Tons of windows filled with hanging crystals that make rainbows when the light hits them

A large deck looking onto a huge yard with redwood trees, fruit trees, Japanese inspired gardens and ponds

A hot tub or natural spring or swimming pool

Clean, well kept, updated interior

Washer/Dryer and new, energy efficient appliances

Lots of room to grow our own food

Fenced-in yard for the dogs

An awesome sounding baby grand piano

Really high ceilings and cool acoustics

A potter's wheel and raku pit for firing work

Large firepit for drum circles and singing and toasting marshmallows

A labyrinth or the perfect outside meditation area

Hammocks and swings and trampoline

Loving, attentive, flexible landlord who we all love

$3000-4000/month, split 4 ways

The vibe of the home:

Sharing a home is the ideal situation for all us, we have intentionally chose this because it makes up happiest.

We love waking up in the morning and coming home at night and seeing one another.

We are so grateful to live in a place where we can have dogs, and we do.. at least 3 of them!

We do weekly communal dinners, have dinner parties, musical performances, art shows, poetry readings etc.

We collectively own 10-20 musical instruments that we all randomly play together!

We all have a sense that we are the conscious creators of our lives and strive to create the most authentic life.

We can be loud and rowdy, especially when we wrestle with our dogs, play the piano, or cook dinner..

Or we can be calm and meditative, respecting one another's needs to get space from psychic noise and ground ourselves.

We can have a beer or a glass of wine and coffee or kava, but we don't take it to the extreme.

We have really good practices for checking in with each other and communicating when issues come up.

We invite one another to share in our spiritual practices.

We are family.

About me:

I am a 24 year old community organizer with a taste for the magical and the sacred. You can always find me with a book in hand, jotting down notes or sketching out my dreams. Spiritually, I am most excited about the Law of Attraction, Thetahealing, Clairvoyant development, and Kundalini, though I get inspired about new things everyday. I play the piano, harmonium, ukulele, guitar, drums... anything I can make pretty sounds with..and I sing along. I have the most beautiful 1.5 year old dog you have ever seen and hope to get another in the near future. I'm starting a web-based company to connect people in spiritual circles that I'm completely excited about. I can't wait for the four of us to meet and create a magical place to live and connect.

If you resonate with my vision, please tell me why and email me with a little about yourself and what you're looking for in your ideal home. Any comments, questions, or elaborations on anything I wrote would be awesome!

<description>Yes, we had no damage from the Basin Complex fire on the ocean side of Hwy 1. We canceled all reservations in July to help out our local friends and neighbors who had lost their homes or were evacuated fire fighters, but now we are back to accommodating summer guests. We invite you to take a little sojurn to our paradise. The ridges may be singed, but our place was untouched by fire, and the view is still spectacular. So, how do we describe our guesthouse?

"The Hawk's Nest of Coastlands" is a 500 sq ft cottage with bathroom, kitchenette, and exterior hot tub. It is the guesthouse to our larger home, and we are full time residents. As a guest you have your own private entrance, a private sun deck, and a charming little Zen Garden, backdropped by a view that will take your breath away.

French doors open to an unobstructed view, facing southeast. The visible coastline stretches from Nepenthe Hill to the Big Sur Headlands, then all the way down to Point Lucia (40 miles south as the crow flies). In the foreground is Nepenthe. In the background are the majestic Santa Lucia Mountains. To the South and Southwest, you scan the azure expanse of the Pacific Ocean, 1000 feet below you.

Wake up in bed and watch the sun rise over the Santa Lucia mountains, and then in the evening drink champagne at "golden hour," when the sun paints the hills an unforgettable hue of gilded mauve. Before you go to bed, stare in wonder at the Milky Way overhead, as you stretch out in your own luxurious hot tub. Robes and slippers are provided, and a grape stake fence between the Guesthouse and the Big House affords you complete privacy.

"The Hawk s Nest of Coastlands" has its own kitchenette, with a sink, fridge, coffee maker, toaster-oven, and microwave. The bathroom includes a sink, toilet and shower stall. A luxurious king-size bed faces the view. In case of a chilly morning, you have your own thermostatically controlled fireplace. A love seat and an easy chair with ottoman face the view. A redwood bookcase contains an excellent collection of the literature, poetry, and history of Big Sur.

We are situated in the epicenter of 4 world-class restaurants. All are within one mile's driving distance from your driveway, and menus of each restaurant are in your room. You can even walk to the landmark Nepenthe Restaurant, the “living room of Big Sur,” – the very same location that Orson Wells once gave as an engagement present to Rita Hayworth, (and which Rita never bothered to visit). Typical outdoor activities in Big Sur include hiking throughout the Ventana Wilderness and numerous State Parks, trips to Pfeiffer or Molera Beach, or gentle strolls up and down the Big Sur River. And, there are many art galleries, antique shops, and gift stores to sate the shopper’s appetite.

Located 28.3 miles south of Rio Road (in Carmel), with access directly on Highway 1, a 100 yard asphalt driveway (also known as Lower Coastlands Road), behind a combination gate leads you to your doorstep.

So come on down, kick back, and get into Big Sur living. You may never forget your nights in Big Sur, the land often called “the greatest meeting of land and sea.”

No Pets, No Smoking, and no more than 2 people spending the night. With only one bed and one room, it is not really designed for a family.

$550 for two nights

Five nights for $1,200.

One week for $1,650

Weekends are minimum two night stays.

One night stays available from Monday through Thursday at $325/night.

A Note to Scam Artists:

Do not try the same old scam I read 20 times a week: “I am planning a honeymoon for me and my wife and I am sending you a worthless check of $10,000 from another country. Please cash send me the extra cash via Western Union.” I do not care if you are a Doctor or a Lawyer, you will not mail me a worthless check. If you do not call me, you will not stay here. If you do not write me with your phone number, you will not stay here. And, I will not call you back if you are in Ukraine or Bolivia! Don’t bother.

<td width="100%" style="font:9pt Verdana,Arial,Sans-serif;vertical-align:top;"><span style="color:#808080;font-variant:small-caps;">Sfbay.Craigslist.Org</span> - Yes, we had no damage from the Basin Complex fire on the ocean side of Hwy 1.

		<description>Announcing Piedmont House (Berkeley Hostel)
2434 Piedmont Ave, Berkeley, CA 94704

...an affordable daily rental for your stay in
Berkeley. Piedmont House intends to offer a "scholar
friendly" atmosphere that encourages conviviality.

Piedmont House wishes to serve the cosmos by offering
affordable daily rates to visitors to the Berkeley
area.

Associated with Berkeley Hostels, Piedmont House is a
"single room short-term occupancy" guest house located
at 2434 Piedmont Ave, Berkeley, just over 3 short
blocks from the University. Our rates start at $55.00
per night per private room.

We also offer a 10% discount for a week's stay. We
offer 20% or more discount for 4 weeks' or longer stay
(depending on availability).

Piedmont House has private rooms...but with a
community kitchen so our guests can survive affordably
in Berkeley. Our house and it's shared bathrooms (two
on each of 3 floors) are in transition toward becoming
entirely chemical free, and will have at least one
shower filter per floor, as well as distilled and
remineralized water on tap in the kitchen. We have
free wi-fi internet connection, a public computer and
occasional shared luncheons and events.

We are just over three short blocks from campus and
from International House and a short walk to
bookstores, cafes and famous purveyors of
international cuisine (three blocks to famous
Telegraph Avenue). Close by, there is great hiking,
museums, and a well-regarded botanical garden. There
are also frequent farmers markets.

Berkeley's cultural life of music, dance, poetry,
sports, theater, scientific and cutting edge
intellectuals are always on display. Berkeley is one
of the best cross-cultural places to visit in the
universe. It is the Mecca where diverse cultures
flourish harmoniously together.

<description>Kembrew sez, "The blog Poetry &amp; Popular Culture just covered a copyright conflict involving the Grateful Dead and J.T. Dutton's young adult novel 'Freaked,' which HarperTeen is publishing early next year. The novel is about a 15 year-old kid obsessed with the Grateful Dead." In her original manuscript, Dutton had opened every chapter with a quotation from a Dead song, titling each chapter with the title of the song being quoted from. When it came time to publish, though, Ice 9 Publishing?which somehow owns the rights to all of the Dead's songs?wouldn't grant permission to Dutton to use all of the lyrics she wanted to use. Ultimately, Dutton was allowed to quote from 'Dire Wolf' and was given leave to use brief phrasings from the songs here and there within the text (as with 'She can dance a Cajun rhythm...' in the preceding passage). So in short, because of the exigencies of copyright law and the concerns of Ice 9, the 'Freaked' that you'll see at the store is not the 'Freaked' that Dutton had in mind. But never fear! Yours truly has managed to acquire what is now believed to be the list of quotations Dutton wanted to use as chapter epigraphs in the original book but was not allowed to use in the final version. Here they are. And remember, you heard it first here: If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung . . ." J.T. Dutton's "Freaked" (Thanks, Kembrew!)...

		<pubDate>Sun, 10 Aug 2008 08:11:46 GMT</pubDate>

<description>we are looking for two people to move in to our house.

one immediately for august (feeling panicky and last minute? i'm sure we've all done this before.. lets talk and be calm and collected! everything will be fine)
and one for september (ya got time to mull it over! woo!)

we are looking for someone to be involved in the house, someone who is CLEAN and responsible for their stuff. we are by no means a freakishly clean house.. however the pendulum has swung too far in the direction of non-mindful behavior and careless mess, so we are looking for someone not to remedy the situation, but who will help bring back the balance by being mindful of their effects on household use and also clean up after themselves.

we are loosely organized as co-ops go. we have no chore wheel, no weekly checklists. things usually get done as they need to get done.
we contribute food to a communal area at will, and we also cook meals for each other, spontaneously and pre-planned. we are a house of 6 people (you make 7) and we do: bike repair, sound design, green architecture, biochemistry, dancing, poetry, abstract humor, cat feeding, fish feeding, gardening.

we are trying to preserve gender balance in the house, and are therefore seeking a female to fill the position. i apologize to masculine entities who need housing shortly, but it does affect our house dynamic and we've agreed that this is what we desire.

what is it that you desire in a house? please let us know who you are and what you are about in an email and we will set up a time to meet.

as it so happens, that time will be wednesday night at around 9pm, seeing as how august is coming up shortly! (doh!)

good luck with your search if you are panickedly looking for august housing.
:)

<td width="100%" style="font:9pt Verdana,Arial,Sans-serif;vertical-align:top;"><span style="color:#808080;font-variant:small-caps;">Sfbay.Craigslist.Org</span> - we are looking for two people to move in to our house.

one immediately for august (feeling panicky and last minute? i'm sure we've all done this before.. lets talk and be calm and collected! everything will be fine)
and one for september (ya got time to mull it over! woo!)

we are looking for someone to be involved in the house, someone who is CLEAN and responsible for their stuff. we are by no means a freakishly clean house.. however the pendulum has swung too far in the direction of non-mindful behavior and careless mess, so we are looking for someone not to remedy the situation, but who will help bring back the balance by being mindful of their effects on household use and also clean up after themselves.

we are loosely organized as co-ops go. we have no chore wheel, no weekly checklists. things usually get done as they need to get done.
we contribute food to a communal area at will, and we also cook meals for each other, spontaneously and pre-planned. we are a house of 6 people (you make 7) and we do: bike repair, sound design, green architecture, biochemistry, dancing, poetry, abstract humor, cat feeding, fish feeding, gardening.

we are trying to preserve gender balance in the house, and are therefore seeking a female to fill the position. i apologize to masculine entities who need housing shortly, but it does affect our house dynamic and we've agreed that this is what we desire.

what is it that you desire in a house? please let us know who you are and what you are about in an email and we will set up a time to meet.

as it so happens, that time will be wednesday night at around 9pm, seeing as how august is coming up shortly! (doh!)

good luck with your search if you are panickedly looking for august housing.
:)
