The downstairs is like a 1-bed apt (separate entrance, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, family room, laundry room and storage basement). You get exclusive use of the downstairs bedroom and kitchen, plus shared use of the downstairs family room, bathroom, laundry room and basement. We use the downstairs on a regular basis, but only maybe 50% of the time. We all try and keep the family room reasonably tidy.
Location: In Montclair (Oakland Hills), close to the 13 & 24 freeways. Upscale neighborhood, quiet, safe, secluded. 10-15 minutes drive to Rockridge BART or Mills College. 15-20 minutes drive to UC Berkeley or JF Kennedy.
Woodsy garden setting. Charming house with wood paneled walls, carpeted floors, built-in closets and laundry. Great yard with several large decks and filtered bay views. The downstairs bathroom has a shower, and the downstairs kitchen has a full sized refrigerator and electric cooking.
Babysitting: 8 hours per week (running total)
 Typically 1 or 2 mornings plus two afternoons each week (morning and afternoon on the same day).
 Schedule during school year (Sept - June): Mornings you'll get the kids up, feed them breakfast and take them to school (7:00 am  8:45 am).
 Afternoons you will pick the kids up, maybe take them to an activity or bring them home, give them a snack and help with homework. Maybe the kids will have a friend over. (2:45 pm - 6:00 pm)
 YOU WILL NEED YOUR OWN CAR and a good driving record.
I'm a professional woman with an 8 to 5 type job. I'm also a single mom with two kids, 11 and 8 years old. We have 3 cats. I'm looking for someone who lives roughly the same schedule (typically quiet between 9 pm - 7 am on school/work nights). The upstairs is hardwood floors, so there is some walking noise.
Looking to share with a friendly, responsible, quiet woman (one person only). Obviously someone who likes kids. Please, no smokers. I'm a friendly, flexible person, used to shared living arrangements and respectful of others' needs and wants. I'm looking to find someone with similar characteristics, able to communicate preferences and work out day to day details.
If desired, you can have privacy downstairs part of the time (possible examples: private use of the downstairs for an evening or weekend, for a particular evening each week, the bathroom each morning, etc).
We use the downstairs for the following activities: Family room space for kids or adults to play or watch a movie (especially when other kids/families are over); we might use the family room 4 or 5 times one week, and then very little the next week. Laundry room (roughly 4 loads per week). Second bathroom when someone doesn't want to wait for the upstairs bathroom. Access to the storage basement and back yard.
$230 plus 8 hours of babysitting a week plus share utilities (your share ranges from $80-$120. Includes wireless internet, gas, elec, water, trash, alarm. Move-in requires the first month's rent plus a $300 deposit.
