<summary type="text/plain">I would lik to swap an luxury apt. for a san francisco/bay area house/apt. from early dec. to jan.9. Guang Cai is the best and most elegant apt. in beijing. This is a large (2000 sq.ft.!), 4 bd. apt. with beautiful marble floor for all the areas and warm hardwood floors for all the bedrooms. beautiful wall-papered rooms. and large floor to ceiling windows for the living room (through which you can see Worker's stadium and its lake)and bedroom. The view of this apt. is one of the best in the city, as there is no building blocking any side of the apt.
You can see all the way to 3 ring road and chang-an street. The apt. includes:

1. large flat screen tv
2. high speed internet connection (computer not provided)
3. phone (if you need. )
4. comfortable king size bed.
5. a very large and spacious, fully equiped kitchen
6. beautiful full bathroom
7. all the cleaning, shampooing supply, tooth brush etc.
8. clean bed linen and towel
9. dinning area

yet, the best part of this apt. is its location. it's right at the heart of everything! from here, you can go to any of the below places for less than $2 taxi and 5 min.! wang-fu-jing shopping area, CBD world trade bldg.(if you are on business), san-li-tun pub street, hou-hai area. some of the most fashion
able, talked about high-end restaurants are around the worker's stadium lake, which you can see from the apt. room and are less than 5 min. walking distance away. however, even though you can reach all parts of this huge city very easily from here, this is probably one of the safest and quietest bldg. in town. one reason being that all the window is double window, and secondly, the bldg. is located inside of the property of worker's stadium, which with its lake and trees, provides a quiet sanctury for you.

This is a 4 bedroom apt. but the available rooms are: two bedrooms, each with one king size bed and night stands etc. and one study room with computer connection. </summary>

<title>{AUTOS &gt; MAGAZINES AND E-ZINES} - Insecta Concept Car Trades 6 Legs for 4 Wheels</title>

				Award-winning young designer
Shao Yung Yehdrew inspiration from one of nature's smallest creatures when he designed the Insecta, a vehicle that is small and green like a grasshopper but has the brains of a much more advanced species.

The size, shape and color of the battery-powered personal vehicle reflects the characteristics of its namesake. Insects "not only inspire the styling but also the entire structure and the package of the car," Yeh told Wired.com. "The legs are connected to a central chassis as a thorax, while the canopy can be read as an insect's head. The battery pack at the back symbolizes abdomen."
Auto designers have long drawn inspiration from nature, and Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons famously said the automobile is
"the closest thing we can create to something that is alive." But more often than not it is charismatic megafauna ? particularly big cats ? or birds that designers look to. That's changing, Yeh says, and the future belongs to insects. "They are lightweight, agile,
versatile, efficient and ecological beings," he said. "Compare that to
mammals, a common inspiration of modern car design. Insects are more suitable for cars of the future generation."
This automotive arthropod just might be the solution to millions of lone drivers buzzing around in five-passenger cars.

Yeh is a 22-year-old designer who studied industrial design at Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. The technology he envisions for Insecta is as advanced as its styling. The battery pack shifts according to the car's direction to maintain balance and handling. It uses hub-mounted wheel motors. And the adjustable suspension is one part bug-leg, two parts Citroën, changing the height of the car to suit traffic conditions.
Yeh doesn't see someone like General Motors or Toyota building the car of the future in the future. "I think there would be more and more independent companies building unique electric cars," he said. "They will be looking for innovative design languages and building up their own brand identities."
The way he sees it, the Insecta can be a unique brand identity that attracts buyers who value individuality as well as low environmental impact ? and an emotional attachment to their vehicle. "Cars are always considered not mere products but also have life in some level, even like our pets," he said. "In fact, a lot of kids in Asia are having insects like big beetles as pets. Maybe when they grow up and see some cars like Insecta, they might feel intimate with them. It is important to look for new design elements to appeal to upcoming customer generations."

<title>{AUTOS &gt; MAGAZINES AND E-ZINES} - Eco-Friendly Boating Relies on Technology and Sacrifice</title>
<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://articles.world-of-newave.info/recreation/autos/magazines-and-e_zines/eco-friendly-boating-relies-on-technology-and-sacrifice-2008114711.htm"/>
<summary type="text/plain">

The summer of 2008 was tough on drivers who were used to cheap gas and inefficient cars, but boaters were more apt to upgrade their inefficient technology and make lifestyle changes as the marine industry embraced fuel efficiency. We know that pleasure boating is a lot more of a discretionary activity than driving to work -- but the model of sacrifice and innovation is one to keep in mind for the future of all transportation.

New technologies ranging from more efficient two-stroke engines to longer-range electric boats have given pleasure boaters an opportunity to go green on the blue ocean. Evinrude's now-venerable E-Tec line of two-stroke engines puts automotive technology to shame, while a luxury electric Lear boat runs ten hours on a single charge. If that ain't green enough for you, there's always the option to use your boat less often.

Still, we were wondering if green technology and less time on the water resonated with consumers. We caught up with two employees at 3A Marine, a major sales and service center just south of Boston. Dave Simmer, 3A's Marketing Director, said that fuel efficiency and pollution reduction are definitely on the minds of customers. Roughly half of the visitors to 3A's website check out their "green boating" page, while customers call to ask about fuel saving tips. "People have been conscious of it. We don't want people to not go boating, but we also want people to be responsible." We think that sounds like a common-sense approach for all forms of transporation. When it was released five years ago, the Evinrude E-Tec revolutionized not only marine engines but two-stroke engines in general. For fuel injection, the E-Tec relies on the same Lorentz coil found in loudspeakers to allow precision control of fuel droplet size. The E-Tec also avoids a need for a battery, instead relying on a magneto for reliably starting an engine that often sits in storage for the better part of a year. Jack White, 3A's Sales Manager, said that the E-Tec was extremely popular with his customers. "They've taken the technology that's the dirtiest and turned it into the cleanest -- still using two-stroke technology. It's now even cleaner than the four-stroke outboards." Even more important: boaters like it. Check out a video of it figuratively smoking a four-stroke below.

Despite what the warning label on your hairdryer says, electricity and water can mix. Last week, SolidNav announced a  48 volt electric boat motor that can cruise for up to two hours. Duffy builds an electric that can cruise at five miles an hour for eight hours, while the Lear 204 runs for eleven hours. The current crop of electrics are particularly popular for cruising protected waterways, White says that he's sure that electric boats will be in his seaside showroom in the near future. "I'm sure that in a very short period of time we'll be seeing more coming about that. It hasn't reached the retail level yet, but I'm sure it's taking place in some specialty markets," he said.

There's another great way to enjoy a boat responsibly: don't go very far. "I spent less money operating my boat this weekend than it would cost to take my family of four to a Boston Red Sox game," White said. "It's a minimal part of the expenses -- but I saw many people including myself maybe taking shorter trips in the boat."

Innovate and conserve while still enjoying the water? We really like that idea.Despite the rise in boat foreclosures, 3A's sales manager Jack White said that sales at his shop remained strong
throughout the summer as boaters demanded the fuel-efficient
technology which the marine industry was happy to provide -- even
technology that exceeded EPA mandates. "Even with the rise in cost with
fuel, compared to what we were doing just ten years ago operational
costs really didn't rise as much because of the efficiencies, which is
great -- nevermind the reduction in pollution," White said. He likened sales this summer to those right after 9/11. "I thought sales would go right down the tubes, but people bought more boats because they weren't travelling," he said. "Business remains strong because people are choosing not to travel either by air or by automobile."

Your turn: would the fuel-saving paradigm of technology and conservation work outside of recreational boating? We're listening.

Correction: Jason Russell, SolidNav President, informed us on 10/24 that their battery-powered engines offer different ranges at different cruising speeds. "Last week, SolidNav introduced a 48 volt motor that will power the average 30 foot sailboat at cruising speed for over 40 miles," Russell told Wired.com. The motor does so "without recharging and retails for just over half the price of a comparable installed diesel."

<title>{AUTOS &gt; MAGAZINES AND E-ZINES} - Daytime Roadwork Saves Money but Aggravates Drivers</title>

You're returning to the office for a mid-day doctor's appointment and it's looking like you'll be ten minutes early for your three o'clock meeting when you see more bright red than a presidential electoral map of Oklahoma. After inching along for twenty minutes, you arrive at the head of the traffic jam and find a road crew repainting lane lines. Infuriating, right? Get used to it. As budgets bust across the country, more states are looking to move nighttime work to day in order to save money.

Art Kinsman, Director of Government Affairs for AAA of Southern New England told Wired.com that increased daytime road work is the result of some really tough economic times. "Daytime work causes more congestion, more wasted fuel, more emissions, people not getting from point A to point B on time, and that costs money too," Kinsman said. "That?s a sign of how difficult it is right now in
transportation to make it work. There?s just not enough revenue coming in." In the meantime, drivers stuck in daytime traffic contribute to pollution and idle away gallons of fuel each year.

The alternatives to daytime roadwork aren't that appealing, either. There's very little support for raising taxes, increasing tolls, or letting infrastructure crumble. Plus, daytime roadwork has benefits for workers and motorists beyond saving money on overtime. How would you balance these competing interests? Let us know after the jump.

Daytime construction has taken a particularly heavy toll (har, har) in cash-strapped Massachusetts. Kinsman, who may have been stuck in some of the same Mass Turnpike traffic jams as this writer, told Wired.com that leaders in Boston would have to "step up and take some hard votes" in order to finance construction without jamming roadways with workers.

"As a motorist advocate, the shifting to the daytime does not make me happy. On a personal level as a motorist, it doesn't make me happy," Kinsman said. "The alternative is we need to do something. Sometime in the next couple of years, motorists are going to have to ante up something -- an increase in the gas tax or other revenue-generating methods that can be employed."

That doesn't sit well with Linh Tanh Ngo, the creator of a Facebook group entitled "What?! Daytime road construction again?! This is just bad politics." Ngo, who has been stuck in traffic while living in both Maryland and Louisiana, believes that higher taxes aren't a solution. "Only when government funding has been depleted should there bean increase to income/tolls/other taxes," Ngo told Wired.com. His solution? "The most favorable choice is to implement daytime construction on small roads only. Doing so should help prevent morning traffic accidents and save time for everyone."

It's also important to remember that motorists and the media are guilty of overestimating the financial incentive of moving nighttime roadwork to the day. There's a reason why nighttime work costs more: it's more dangerous to work at night, and the quality of work suffers. A 2001 metastudy (PDF) from Oregon State University found that in nearly all cases, worker safety is most important among decision-makers who determine what time of day construction will take place. Traffic control and congestion tie for first and second. Coming in dead last are cost, air quality, and fuel consumption.

Pretend you are a governor, making hard choices that affect how much motorists pay for gasoline and road-use, how often they waste time stuck in traffic, and how well motorists and non-motorists breathe. What tradeoffs or policy recommendations would you make? We fully expect to hear from both the "build more roads!" and "high speed rail now!" contingents.
