We are looking for a third roommate. Here’s a little about who we are, what the house is like, and some things that can help you decide whether you think you’d be a good fit…ready? Ok, here goes:

Roomie #1: Uber-cool recent Berkeley grad, early 20s but very mature. Restaurant manager. Punk. Artist. Pierced and tattooed. Straight and in a relationship. Has a wonderful dog. Not here very often...chances of seeing her are almost as rare as seeing the ivory-billed woodpecker.

Roomie #2: Comes across as a bit anal at first, but get to know her and you’ll think otherwise. Avid gardener. Graduate student, culturally Jewish, late 20s, female, queer, also kinky. In the house you will find her…holed up in her room working on her thesis, sneaking around in the hallway acting like a velociraptor, and cooking while wearing cute aprons. Oh yeah, and you might hear her having crazy sex. sometimes. sorry. In a relationship!

The pets: There live here two big hairy fun dogs, a Border Collie and an Australian Shepherd. During the day they are generally loose in the kitchen/hallway area. They will not be allowed in the bedroom (unless you want it). At night, they sleep in crates. Both of them are friendly and pretty well trained.

Roomie #1 has a dog as well, a border collie mix. She only pretty much stays in that roomie’s bedroom though so you rarely see her either.

Also, there is an Amazon parrot. She talks sometimes, but also she screams sometimes. Generally speaking, she is quiet and really cool, but then there are those 15 minutes a day… Sorry about your eardrums, in advance.

Roomie #3: You? We are looking for someone who is quirky as we are, who has a sense of humor and who is committed to living in community. We want a friend as well as a roommate, but also someone who has good boundaries. Obviously, because of who we are, you will have to be ok with (one) of us being kinky (in part this means that she spend free time scrubbing things and calls her g/f 'Sir', but other than that it won't affect you). It is helpful if you like dogs. Caged pets will be considered so if you have one, cool! Cat allergies means no cats. We are also at the legal dog limit so dog not likely, but ask anyway.

The House: Gigantic 1890s Victorian located at 3 points (Emeryville/ Oakland/ Berkeley border), organic vegetable gardening space, grape arbor, flowers everywhere, lots of potential garden space that needs lots of work. Maybe you like to grow your own food? Ducks living in the back yard, some of whom we are raising for meat, some for eggs. An enormous back yard with an original (working) well! Many varieties of fruit trees that produce. Solar equipped. We recycle and compost. We are more geeks than hippies, though.

The house is a commune of sorts. Upstairs neighbors are also the landlords. They are Burners, 3 adults, 2 children. They are cool with almost anything within reason and some things that seem bizarre (for instance, it is ok to do singletail/whip practice in the back yard, to do fire performance play in the kitchen, and to do full suspensions from the ceiling in the bedrooms.) Upstairs and downstairs share the yards (front and back), garden in common and share the fruit from the trees. We eat together at least once a month and hang out a lot, but truthfully there is enough separation that it feels like two households.

There is one bathroom in our apartment (for now, the second one is being remodeled) so sharing space has to be ok. The kitchen is really awesome (we think), as we have a camp sink, an original ice box (which we use as a cupboard), and a Wedgewood stove. We like to bake. Especially cookies.

The room for rent is the middle-sized room of the house, not huge, not small. It has a built in closet and dresser and shelves, lots of plugs, comes partially furnished (queen sized bed that is only a few months old) if you want it. The walls are off white/cream. Re-painting can be negotiated, but you’d have to do the work yourself. Floor is original and has one patch. You are welcome to put down rugs or ikea flooring or anything else you want. This is a really laid back house.

Credit check required, along with first and last month’s rent and security deposit (slightly more for a pet). $535 a month includes utilities (water/garbage/electric-solar/gas) and wireless internet. You pay cable if you want it. You must have a job or some sort of regular income to get an application. You also have to be willing to sign a lease that lasts until next year. Please don’t be a drug addict. Also, we are kinda blah even on smoking, even cigs, so if you are going to do that it has to be away from the house. Cool? OK, then, if you think you’ll like us and we’ll like you, please e-mail a somewhat detailed description of what you are looking for and who you are, and we’ll get back to you! All reasonable inquiries will be answered.

Move in as early as next week. Looking for someone definitely by the 1st of the month but prefer the 15th of this month! Let's celebrate Halloween in our fun haunted house!

The wave of nostalgia that's brought back the Mini, the Fiat 500 and old-school muscle cars like the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger is lapping at Porsche, which could bring back the 914 and is considering the return of four-cylinder engines.
It's no secret that Volkswagen is bringing a small
mid-engined two-seaterto the Los Angeles auto show in November, and with
Walter de'Silvadesigning it, it's sure to be a stunner. What's interesting is it seems Porsche is interested in the project, raising the possibility of the 914's return as early as 2011.
				Couple that with
the reportthat Porsche is ready to bring back four-cylinder engines should it need help meeting tightening environmental mandates and it appears that old Porsches may be new again. Although nothing's been finalized, a four-banger is a natural for the reborn 914.
These fuel-efficient, enviro-conscious times have forced automakers, and their marketing departments, to come up with new selling points. With gas
just shy of four bucksa gallon and CAFE standards (not to mention Europe's emissions rules) only getting stricter, how much longer can automakers crow about massive engines and high horsepower? Oh sure, the automakers are still cranking out high-power sports cars and even the Cadillac CTS-V produces 550 horsepower. But take a closer look at the product pipeline and you'll see automakers increasing performance by reducing bulk, an approach
					Colin Chapman espousedwith great results.
VW's taken that approach to the mid-engined concept we'll see in Los Angeles. Although it has rolled out some cool one-offs, from the
One-Liter carwith triple-digit fuel economy to the sweet
diesel-electric hybrid Golfwe saw earlier this year, this one's actually feasible.
					According to
						Motor Trend
, VW's engineers are raiding the company parts bin to keep costs down. Look for styling influenced by the
EcoRacer conceptand a chassis developed by Audi. Such a car, if built, would aspire to the sharp handling of the Lotus Elise but for a lot less coin.
				As
					Motor Trendnotes, Porsche's
controlling stake in VWdoesn't make it crazy to think it will get in on the action and bring back the 914, a car born of a similar collaboration between the two companies. What's more, VW Group chairman Dr. Ferdinand Piech was the shepherd who led the original 914 to
production. Like the original, which Porsche built from 1969 until 1976, the updated model would be an entry-level model, slotting in below the Boxster. While the VW would probably get the
1.4L Twincharger engine, the Porsche would probably use the Boxster's 2.7-liter six-cylinder mill.
Unless, of course, Porsche starts lopping cylinders off its six-cylinder powerplants, something Australia's

Drivemagazine saysthe company is prepared to do if gas prices surge again or bureaucrats further tighten fuel economy or emissions rules. Porsche's man in charge of engines, Thomas Krickelberg, recently told reporters Down Under the new line of boxer sixes was engineered to easily be converted to four-bangers.
"(There are) the discussions about global warming and the need to reduce fuel consumption," he said. "The target was to have a six-cylinder because that is the criteria of the 911 and the Boxster. But there is still the option to reduce the number of cylinders.?
Although there are no immediate plans to bring back four-cylinder cars, Krickelberg did say "if there's a strong need to do it, we'll have to think about it." A resurrected 914 would be the natural place for such an engine. While it's at it, Porsche could put one in an entry-level 911, thereby resurrecting the 912. But what we'd really like to see is a
					904or
					550 Spyderrevival.

: Photo: Jock Fistick/Wired.comCOLOGNE, Germany -- Just 18 hours before this year's Photokina opens its doors, the biannual camera extravaganza was looking like a bit of a wreck.

But just like photography, behind the scenes at giant expos is rarely pretty. To keep spirits high, new gear announcements and demos are already coming through, including a hands-on with what might be the most revolutionary camera to date, the Canon 5D Mark II.

Click through the gallery to see the most promising products as a few brave reps shout over banging hammers and clanging ladders, kicking off the five-day photo geekfest.

Left: A carpenter works in the Samsung display area hours before the opening of the Photokina exhibition.
: Photo: Jock Fistick/Wired.comRichard Shepherd, of Canon Europe, presents the Canon EOS 5D Mark II to foreign journalists. Its announcement last week set the photo world abuzz due to its extreme low-light sensitivity and ability to output full-HD video at 30 fps. Many photographers are itching to get their hands on it. It will sell for $2,700. : Photo: Jock Fistick/Wired.comThe full-frame, 21.1-megapixel EOS 5D Mark II is the first EOS with full high-def video capability. The camera can snap 3.9 frames per second and can capture still images while video is being recorded -- the video recording will be paused when a still image capture is activated and will resume. : Photo: Jock Fistick/Wired.comPanasonic has their new Lumix G1 on hand -- the first implementation of the Micro Four-Thirds system which does away with the mirror and prism of DSLRs in order to achieve a smaller body. This means you can't see directly through the lens and have to depend on the live view on the LCD screen. On the plus side, you get a far more portable body with interchangeable lenses.

The Lumix G1 sports a 12-megapixel MOS sensor and is available in blue and red as well as the standard black, and is priced around 900 euro.: Tamron announced a tiny 18mm to 270mm F 3.5 - 6.3 variable aperture zoom lens aimed at the amateur travel photographer who likes to pack light. Tamron claims this lens has the largest focal-length range of any zoom currently in production and that their "Vibration Compensation" technology (aka image stabilization) adds four stops of hand hold-able usability.

18mm to 270mm is certainly an impressive range for a single lens of this size, but we're wary of the sharpness of images one can expect. This could certainly be a boon for first-time DSLR buyers who can't decide between a wide or long lens.
: This is the new KODAK OLED Wireless Frame. The first-ever organic light-emitting diode frame, which displays images and videos in ultra-crisp quality for improved 180-degree visibility. Hopefully this will help de-crapify the digital picture frame market.

: Photo: Jock Fistick/Wired.comThe gang at Lomography went all out for their display area, which is made up of thousands of user-submitted "lomographs." : Photo: Jock Fistick/Wired.comThe Diana kit from Lomography is priced at 200 euro and 250 USD. It features a Diana camera with a slew of lenses, a 35mm film back and other useful doodads -- a great gift for the budding art photographer who still loves film. : Photo: Jock Fistick/Wired.comLomography's big announcement for Photokina is the reintroduction of the Lomo twin lens reflex Lubitel 166+. The camera was first made in 1984 and ended production about 10 years later. The camera comes with a special 35mm film adapter, which allows exposure over the entire 35mm film frame including the sprocket holes -- giving the ultimate "lomo" effect. The price point will be around 300 USD stateside. : In this digital age Kodak saw fit to announce a new film: Ektar 100, which Kodak claims is the finest-grain color negative film in the world. An exciting development for retro-futurists. : Epson shows off their updated storage viewers: the P-7000 (160 GB) and the P-6000 (80 GB) models. The display is a big four inches (640 x 480) and of computer-monitor quality giving photographers on the move the ability to view their images in greater detail without the need of a computer.

: Photo: Jock Fistick/Wired.comConstruction workers and technicians are busy building the vendors' display areas just hours before Photokina opens to the public.

Www.Wired.Com - : Photo: Jock Fistick/Wired.comCOLOGNE, Germany -- Just 18 hours before this year's Photokina opens its doors, the biannual camera extravaganza was looking like a bit of a wreck.

Enjoy the calm and greenery of the Presidio with easy access to city life.
I am offering a sunny and spacious 2nd floor master bedroom and adjacent smaller room that can be used as an office, den, or artist's studio - perfect for someone who works from home. The bedroom has a gorgeous view of the city, Crissy Field, and the Palace of Fine Arts.

The downstairs common areas include a completely remodeled kitchen with gas stove, large living room, dining room and glassed-in sunroom. Hardwood floors throughout. There is also ample storage space in the huge unfinished basement. 2 tandem parking spots are included in the rent and there is also guaranteed street parking. The house is adjacent to a meadow and the beautiful landscaping is maintained by the park.

You will be close to Golden Gate, Baker Beach, Crissy Field, tons of trails, and Chestnut, Union and Clement street shopping & restaurants. A free shuttle makes it easy to get around the park or downtown. Easy access to 1 and 101.

More info about this beautiful, completely remodeled historic home in the Presidio can be found at:

http://www.presidio.gov/leasing/residentialleasing/neighborhoods/storeyterrace

I am a 29 yr old professional, working fairly regular 8-6 hrs at UCSF. I enjoy a healthy lifestyle, running, biking, kayaking, tennis and just getting outside. I generally keep things pretty quiet at home, although I do like to have the occasional dinner party or BBQ, and enjoy going out for dinner and drinks. I like to keep the common area clean and relatively neat so it is a nice space to relax in, although I am not super uptight about it (e.g. dishes in the sink overnight are ok).
I also have a very sweet & mellow 11 yr old shepherd/collie mix, so dog people are encouraged (sorry, no more pets allowed).

I have a decent amount of furniture (a mixture of Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, and Cost Plus) but the house is big, so could easily accommodate your furniture as well. (*note the last photo is NOT the house in the Presidio - I included a picture of my current living room just to give you an idea of what the house might look like furnished).

I’m looking for someone friendly, responsible, and clean to share this home.
The ideal move-in date would be Oct 1-15, but I am somewhat flexible.

If you are interested, please email me with a little info about yourself and a contact phone number.

Thanks!
