This 2-month sublet goes from 9/15 - 11/14. Please read this entire post. Then if you decide to reply, please answer the four questions at the very bottom of this post.
This is an opportunity to share a newly remodeled flat near the Berkeley border with two great women, one in her 30's, one in her 50's. The household is non-smoking, shoes-free, and 95% vegetarian.
My name is Trevor. I own the house but am leaving for two months. Robin designs kitchens and makes her own jewelry and clothing. Jennie is a world traveler. Both of them love cooking and spending time outdoors.
You can sublet my room for $585/month, or $485/month if youÂre willing to care for my cat, Friendly. More on that shortly.
Since this is a short sublet, IÂd prefer someone who can pay upfront for both months, plus a $500 security deposit. (Then I wonÂt have to worry about collecting the second monthÂs rent.) However, if thatÂs not doable, you can move in with just a first monthÂs rent and security deposit.
The flat is newly remodeled and features:
Refinished hardwood floors
10' tall ceilings
Victorian features
Furnace that serves all rooms, so youÂll never be cold in the winter
Large yard area with potential for gardening.
1500 square feet
Large remodeled kitchen with stainless steel appliances, gas stove, granite countertop, skylights, tile floor, cherry cabinets, granite countertop, and a big pass-through window open to the living room.
Kitchen is also equipped with a Vitamix, Multipure water filter, Cuisinart food processor, sprouter, and deyhdrator
Remodeled bathroom with 6' tub, tile floor, glass sinktop
Redwood deck
Attic space for storage
Entertainment center with DVD player
Easy to park on the street

Maccall is not a through street, so the only people who drive here are the neighbors.
Most of the neighboring houses are owner-occupied. That means most of the neighbors are mature and stable people. It's not a transient neighborhood.
A house cleaner comes every two weeks to clean the common rooms.
Other shared utilities are: PG&E, water, and DSL (if you want web access). Here is what your share of utilities will be each month:
DSL: $12
Water: $17+
PG&E: $17-40
Housecleaning: $40
HereÂs what Robin and Jennie are looking for in a subletter/housemate:

If you get home late or leave early while one of us is still sleeping, youÂll be as considerate as we are in the same situation.
You wash your dishes right after using them. (This is a MUST!)
If something is bothering you, you'll approach us to work out a solution (i.e. we don't want someone who's passive aggressive)
We'd most like to sublet to a vegetarian.
If you want to cook fish/meat *very occasionally*, we're open to that. But thereÂs no hood above the stove, and we donÂt want the house to smell like meat (or have grease build up in the kitchen) on a regular basis.
If you watch a few hours of TV each week, or none at all, that's cool. However, if more than that, weÂll ask you to keep it in your bedroom.
However, most of the things listed above are flexible, and the most important thing is that we find someone considerate and compatible.
If you want the $100/month discount, let me explain what cat sitting entails. You'll need to feed Friendly, let him sleep on the bed with you, keep your bedroom door open a crack at night (so he can get in and out), and vacuum the cat hair that accumulates in my room (i.e. your room).
We have a cat flap on the front door, so he usually goes to the Âbathroom outside. However, when he does use the litter box, youÂll be responsible for changing his litter each day.
Robin has two cats as well. Since they moved in this past March, Friendly occasionally marks his territory by going to the "bathroom" on our hardwood floor. For what it's worth, he's an old cat, about 14 years old.
The good news is that we've found a couple of ways to minimize this, such as keeping the other cats on the opposite side of the house. However, if there is a mishap, cleaning it up will be part of your job.
If this feels like a good fit, please answer these questions for me:
(1) What experience have you had caring for cats?
(2) Are you OK with leaving your bedroom door open a crack at night, so Friendly can get in and out? (You won't be disturbed by roommate noise because we keep the hallway door closed, and the kitchen / living room are on the opposite side of the house.)
(3) Can pay for two months rent in advance, plus the $500 security deposit? ($485 + $485 + $500 = $1,670.)
(4) Is it realistic for you to clean your dishes immediately after making a meal?
